Preventing the Preventable: Opportunistic Infection Prophylaxis in Solid Organ Transplant

Pharmacist Objectives:
- - Identify common opportunistic infections and viral pathogens for which prophylaxis is recommended in solid organ transplant recipients.
- - Interpret institutional and guideline-based recommendations for prophylactic antimicrobial, antiviral, and antifungal therapy in solid organ transplant patients.
- - Explain the evidence and rationale supporting current prophylaxis strategies used in solid organ transplant recipients.
- - Apply prophylaxis recommendations to patient-specific solid organ transplant scenarios.
Pharmacy Technician Objectives:
- List common opportunistic infections and viral pathogens for which prophylaxis is recommended in solid organ transplant recipients.
- List the evidence and rationale supporting current prophylaxis strategies used in solid organ transplant recipients.
- List prophylaxis recommendations to patient-specific solid organ transplant scenarios.
This is a knowledge based activity. This activity was planned to meet the educational needs of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who practice in any setting.
Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Participants of the session who complete the evaluation and provide accurate NABP e-Profile information will have their credit for 1.0 contact hours (0.10 CEU) submitted to CPE Monitor as early as 1 day after the event and no later than 60 days after the event. Please know that if accurate e-Profile information is not provided within 60 days of the event, credit cannot be claimed after that time. The participant is accountable for verifying the accurate posting of CE credit to their CPE Monitor account within 60 days. Participants must participate completely in the activity and complete the course evaluation in its entirety to claim continuing pharmacy education credit.
