Why Participate in a Poster Session?
Presenting a peer-reviewed poster is an ideal professional development activity for preceptors, both seasoned and new practitioners, residents, and students. Poster sessions also promote professional growth by facilitating networking and collaboration with peers, preceptors, and healthcare leaders. Feedback received during poster interactions helps refine projects and may inspire future research, publication, or practice innovation.
Participation in a poster session provides pharmacy residents and students with a valuable opportunity to translate scholarly work into professional communication. Poster presentations foster the development of critical skills in research evaluation, data synthesis, and evidence-based practice while promoting lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity.
Engaging in a poster session allows participants to clearly and concisely communicate clinical findings, quality improvement initiatives, or educational projects to a professional audience. This experience strengthens verbal and visual presentation skills, encourages scholarly dialogue, and supports the ability to defend clinical decisions using current literature and best practices. For residents and students, poster participation reinforces accountability, confidence, and professionalism while demonstrating a commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and improving patient care outcomes.
The GSHP Education Committee will be evaluating all evaluative study and descriptive report abstracts submitted for recognition and designation as "Outstanding GSHP Poster", with three categories recognized: 1) Best Pharmacy Student Poster; 2) Best Pharmacy Resident Poster; 3) Best Pharmacy Practitioner Poster; based on the credentials of the primary (first) author. One student, one resident, and one practitioner poster will each win an award based on the highest combined abstract and poster scores. Winners will each receive a plaque and a cash prize.
