The CGM Revolution: Navigating the OTC vs Rx Divide in Continuous Glucose Monitoring

Learning Objectives for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians:

• Differentiate between OTC and prescription (Rx) continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) in terms of accessibility, functionality, and regulatory considerations.
• Recognize the patient populations best suited for CGM use, including non-insulin-dependent and insulin-dependent individuals.
• List scenarios where OTC CGMs or Rx CGMs are more appropriate based on patient needs and clinical recommendations.
• Identify strategies to address and prevent problems associated with CGM use, including interpretation errors and device adherence, and provide effective counseling tips to support glycemic control and patient adherence.

This is a knowledge based activity.  This activity was planned to meet the educational needs of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who practice in any setting.

Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.   Participants of the session who complete the evaluation and provide accurate NABP e-Profile information will have their credit for 1.0 contact hours (0.10 CEU) submitted to CPE Monitor as early as 1 day after the event and no later than 60 days after the event.  Please know that if accurate e-Profile information is not provided within 60 days of the event, credit cannot be claimed after that time.  The participant is accountable for verifying the accurate posting of CE credit to their CPE Monitor account within 60 days. Participants must participate completely in the activity and complete the course evaluation in its entirety to claim continuing pharmacy education credit.
