“Avoiding the Ouch" Review of Non-Injectable Sedative Agents for Pediatric Patients in the Emergency Department

Pharmacist Objectives:

-          Identify optimal doses and routes for non-injectable sedative agents based on patients' specific factors.

-          Describe the efficacy and safety profiles of different non-injectable sedatives in pediatric patients.

-          Discuss the current clinical evidence supporting non-injectable sedative use for pediatric patients in the emergency department.

Pharmacy Technician Objectives:

Identify commonly used non-injectable sedative medications in pediatric patients, including typical dosage forms and routes of administration used in the emergency department.

List key safety considerations and common adverse effects associated with non-injectable sedatives in pediatric patients.

Describe the general role and purpose of non-injectable sedatives in pediatric emergency care.

This is a knowledge based activity.  This activity was planned to meet the educational needs of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who practice in any setting.

Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.   Participants of the session who complete the evaluation and provide accurate NABP e-Profile information will have their credit for 1.0 contact hours (0.10 CEU) submitted to CPE Monitor as early as 1 day after the event and no later than 60 days after the event.  Please know that if accurate e-Profile information is not provided within 60 days of the event, credit cannot be claimed after that time.  The participant is accountable for verifying the accurate posting of CE credit to their CPE Monitor account within 60 days. Participants must participate completely in the activity and complete the course evaluation in its entirety to claim continuing pharmacy education credit.
