Overview and Management of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia

Objectives:
Pharmacists:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
· Discuss the basic epidemiology and pathogenesis of Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT)
· Identify major risk factors, clinical symptoms and methods for diagnosing patients with Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia
· Review current guidelines on the management of Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia
· Evaluate current literature supporting use of Direct oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) in HIT
· Design an appropriate treatment regimen for a patient with Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia when given a case
Technicians:

Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Participants of the session who complete the evaluation and provide accurate NABP e-Profile information will have their credit for 1 contact hour (0.1 CEU) submitted to CPE Monitor as early as 1 day after the event and no later than 60 days after the event. The participant is accountable for verifying the accurate posting of CE credit to their CPE Monitor account within 60 days.
