    Congratulations to Lori McGinley who was elected Northeast Georgia District Director-elect starting in July 2021

    Lori McGinley, PharmD is currently  VP of Pharmacy Management for PharmD on Demand. Lori received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. Her career includes both retail and hospital pharmacy experience, as well as expertise in pharmacy informatics, pharmacy management and student preceptorship. Lori previously was Director of Pharmacy at a small rural hospital as well as Inpatient Pharmacy Manager at a larger facility where she demonstrated excellence in leadership, eagerness to learn and grow her department and a desire to further her career.

    From these roles Lori acquired the knowledge of how all departments must work together for the common goal of patient care. Of particular note, Lori learned the importance of teamwork that is involved in small hospitals. As VP of Pharmacy Management, Lori leads our Pharmacy Directors and oversees our Pharmacy Management department. She is committed to providing unsurpassed customer service to our managed facilities and supporting our Directors every day. In addition to serving current customers and staff, Lori also plays a vital role in acquiring new business and recruiting. Her experience in effectively evaluating and managing small hospital pharmacies helps us continue to provide the most efficient pharmacy management services to our clientele.

    Lori is an Apexus ACE Certified 340b Expert, and active member of GSHP, GPhA and GHA, as well as a member of the UGA    College of Pharmacy Alumni Board. She lives in Jefferson, GA and enjoys creative projects, music, and spending time with her family.

    Congratulations to Ann Truong who was elected Chattahoochee District Director-elect starting in July 2021

    Ann Truong, Pharm.D. is currently a PGY-1 pharmacy resident at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown in Columbus, GA. She is originally from the metro Atlanta area and graduated in May 2020 from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. After finishing residency, she will start as a clinical pharmacist at Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside and pursue board certification in pharmacotherapy. Her professional interests include internal medicine, critical care, and infectious diseases. She has been a member of GSHP since 2019 and is excited for more opportunities to get involved after residency. She currently resides in Columbus, GA, and in her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, reading, and traveling.

    Congratulations to Jessica Hick-Elected Secretary of GSHP starting in July 2021

    Jessica Hicks, PharmD, BCPS, is currently a Clinical Pharmacist II at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta. Within this role, she works primarily with surgical patients, providing various clinical services such as order accuracy and verification, anticoagulation management/education, pharmacokinetic monitoring, and consultation to providers and nurses. In addition, Jessica has spent the last four years as APPE student rotation coordinator for Emory Midtown, as well as precepting students from Mercer University College of Pharmacy, University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

    Jessica obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University in 2014 and went on to complete an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 2015. She has been a member of GSHP since 2010 and served as NE Metro District Director from 2019-2021, during which time she was named GSHP Outstanding District Director.

    For fun, Jessica loves to travel to visit out-of-state friends and attend sporting events, especially the Atlanta Braves. She is an avid supporter and proud alumna of her beloved Tennessee Volunteers, and can frequently be seen

    Congratulations to Davey Legendre who was elected President-elect of GSHP starting in July 2021

    Davey Legendre earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from The University of Louisiana at Monroe.  He completed a residency in pharmacy practice at West Virginia University and an infectious diseases residency at The University of Mississippi.  He earned his Masters of Business Administration from Western Governor’s University.  

    Davey has over 15 years of pharmacy leadership experience, having served as Corporate Clinical Director, Corporate Director of Research, Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Clinical Manager, and Adjunct Faculty.

    Davey has key publications in Clinical Infectious Diseases, Pharmacotherapy, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases on topics ranging from antibiotic desensitization to Mucormycosis.  As a presenter, Davey has delivered symposiums at MICROBE, ASHP Midyear, and the United States Public Health Service. Davey joined Comprehensive Pharmacy Services as Vice President, Clinical Infectious Diseases in 2014.  He established the Pharmacist Antimicrobial Stewardship Training (PhAST) program, an ACPE-approved certificate.  He also provides comprehensive clinical consultation to assigned hospitals and manages the infectious diseases consult service nationwide.


    Davey lives in Woodstock, GA with his wife of 15 years and 4 children.  A youth mentor, he has coached baseball for 17 seasons at Hobgood Baseball and is an instructor, guitarist, and singer for the Angel Youth Choir in Woodstock.  He is a longstanding Board Member of the Georgia Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, serving as the Co-Chair of Organizational Affairs for the last five years.

    At the March Board of Directors meeting, the Board of Directors voted to appoint Dr. Susan Smith to serve as the New Practitioner member of the Board of Directors for the remainder of Dr. Anne Misher’s term through July 2022.

    Anne Misher had served as the New Practitioner Member of the Board of Directors since July 2020. Recently, she accepted a new position out of state and resigned her position on the Board of Directors. Dr. Misher has been a very engaged member of GSHP and was integral in the development and success of the monthly Ambulatory Care Clinical calls. We will miss her and wish her luck in her new endeavors.

    Dr. Susan Smith is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She maintains an active practice site in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Piedmont Athens Regional, where she serves as a preceptor for 4th year Doctor of Pharmacy Students as well as 3rd and 4th year Doctor of Medicine Students. Susan graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy in 2015 and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Critical Care Specialty Pharmacy Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Susan serves on the mentorship committee for the AACP Pharmacy Practice mentorship program as well as the Women Faculty SIG mentorship program. She is also actively involved with the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Critical Care PRN as well as the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Section. She additionally serves as Chair of the University of Georgia Critical Care Collaborative (UGAC3). Susan’s current research interests are in the hemodynamic management of septic shock, critical care pharmacy practice models, and education and implementation of advanced cardiovascular life support principles.

    As National Volunteer Week 2021 comes to an end, we thank our members who continue to give of their time and talents any time they are called into service.  We want to acknowledge you and thank you for your service. 

    As stated in President Biden’s proclamation, “The tremendous power of volunteers and volunteerism has been on dramatic display in our response to the COVID-19 pandemic”.  GSHP members have been at the fore front of many challenging responses in our communities and hospitals from natural disasters to pandemics to service of GSHP.

    As National Volunteer Week ends, we acknowledge our fellow volunteers, and know you are the backbone of the GSHP.

    If you are planning to attend the GSHP Summer Meeting at Amelia Island in just a few weeks, then perhaps you'd like to be a panelist for the Pharmacy Student Forum on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 12pm- 2pm. Lunch is provided!

    Come as you are; no preparation needed, just bring your experience. 

    In years past, the students have found this forum to be very eye-opening and rewarding.  GSHP would like to panel pharmacists from all aspects of pharmacy to answer questions from students and residents about why you chose your present job in pharmacy.
